Over the years I have collected several photos of He111 with interesting night camouflage. My guess is it will be the same unit. The style of the camouflage is similar. Could it be a KG53 ? What do you think ?
I have examples of the habit of applying a large two-letter identifikation in temporary black paint. Here is an example with A1+CP of KG53 with 'A1' discernible under the layer of black paint at WNr.4044. Sold as taken at 'Flugplatz Lille (Süd), Frankreich'.
Some others "night" Heinkel 111s. The broken machine "H" below was sold as a KG55 aircraft (?)
Photos below; overpainted fuselage letters on a Heinkel 111H-6 at Leeuwarden (Holland) in 1941. This particular aircraft of 3./KG28 was lost on september 7, 1941 on the Eastern Front. Only the pilot Oblt Gustav Gäber returned safe, Gefr Paul Matthias (BO) and Ofw Elterlein (BF) both lost their lives.
